We are Proud to Offer Several Levels When it Comes to Dog Training and Education

In order to offer the most options to fur families for dog training, we offer several levels to help your pup be the best they can be. Read more about our philosophy and the different classes below.

Positive Methods Obedience

Traditional obedience classes for pups of every age. No Prong collars...we use a balanced approach that combines the best of positive reinforcement while retaining the benefits of structure and guidance.

Our obedience training philosophy is focused on science-based, positive reinforcement instruction. We offer clients several different ways to work with their dogs — all of which involve a gentle, kind and fair technique. We encourage students to use a clicker during class. We strive to find a humane method that works for both the dog and human. We do not do any leash “corrections” and choke chains / pinch collars are never used. It is important to us to help our clients understand how their dog learns and thinks so they can get their dogs to do what they want.

All of our group, obedience training classes are limited in size so you are guaranteed individual attention. Classes are designed to be fun AND cognitively stimulating for everyone. With small classes, we provide plenty of time for demonstration, practice and discussion. We focus on teaching humans and their canine family members how to effectively communicate with one another and the results are happy people and dogs who leave each class with new skills.

Level 2
$145.00
  • 6-week Class
  • Must have passed Level 1 or another basic obedience class
  • Level two classes are designed to take the training exercises that your pup learned in the level one class and turn them into rock solid obedience that will work in the real world in the absence of treats as well as introducing leash work and heeling. We will emphasize hand signals more in this class than we did in level 1.
  • Learn skills like:
  • Socializing by working with other people's dogs
  • Heel - dog must walk directly next to you instead of behind or in front of you. The dog is required to keep pace with you, only stopping when you stop and walking when you walk
  • Sit, stand and down-in-motion: while heeling, you sit the dog and keep walking (dog cannot follow you)
  • Automatic sit when you halt (no command given)
  • Recall with owner out of sight of the dog
  • Stranger food refusal (your dog learns not to accept food or treats from someone until you say so)
  • Reactions to door knocks and doorbells
  • Off - We will learn strategies for jumping up on people

In late spring, we will be offering a Growl, Bark and Snarl Class.

Dogs naturally become more shy and standoffish as they get older if not continually socialized. Adolescent and adult dogs develop fears and phobias to stimuli that they aren't continually exposed to.

Keeping your dog well-socialized to other dogs is not so easy, and often this area of their socialization deteriorates the most rapidly. At some point most dogs will get into at least one scrimmage with another dog. Sadly, this often marks the beginning of the end when it comes to their socialization with other dogs. The owners want to avoid future fights so they avoid future opportunities to socialize. The dogs socialization deteriorates further and the likelihood of them fighting when they see another dog increases.

Resolving this problem in the course of everyday life is very difficult. Using methods developed by Dr. Dunbar,  we will use the setting of our Growl to re-condition them and rehabilitate and re-socialize them to once again enjoy the company of other dogs.

Introducing our Trainer and Owner, Scott Tripp

After years of pet ownership and training his own pups, Scott decided it was time to take it to the next level! Scott has been studying the SIRIUS dog training methodology for years and really believes in all the theories put forth by Dr. Ian Dunbar. SIRIUS champions user-friendly and dog-friendly dog training specifically, that training should be as enjoyable for dogs as it is for owners, and that training should only involve quick, easy, and effective methods that are within the capabilities of all family members, especially including children.
